How many hours before my flight should I be at Budapest Airport?

For busy early-morning departures: within the Schengen area allow 1.5-2 hours without checked bags and 2-2.5 hours with bags; for non-Schengen flights allow 2.5 hours without bags and 2.5-3 hours with bags. Off-peak you can subtract about half an hour.

Why does the destination matter?

Both your final destination and any transfer point matter. Flights leaving the Schengen area go through passport control and longer screening, so you should arrive earlier than for a Schengen flight.

Does the time of day make a difference?

Yes. Early morning and late morning are the busiest at Budapest Airport, with the most departures – so queues build up at check-in and especially at security. Allow more time for those slots.

How much time should I add for parking and the shuttle?

The recommended times are for when to be at the airport, not when to reach the car park. From Budapest Reptér Parkoló the shuttle to the departure level takes 6-8 minutes, but allow about 15-20 minutes in total from arriving at the car park to being at the terminal.

– For a non-Schengen destination, about 2.5 hours at the airport is enough – but you're starting from the car park, so allow another half hour for parking and the shuttle to the terminal.

The other key factor is where you're flying. Flights within the Schengen area don't require passport control, so the process is quicker. Flights outside Schengen (and transfers outside it) go through passport control and longer screening – arrive earlier for those.
