Official airport parking – downsides
- Considerably more expensive. They do have a cheaper option now, but it's also shuttle-based – and it doesn't take you to the departure level. From there you still climb a staircase, enter the terminal at arrivals, then climb again to departures.
- The nearby car parks are very pricey. Spots close to the terminal come at a steep price.
- A fair distance (800–1000 m). A proper walk, exposed to the weather. There's a roof over the pavement, but if you can't park close, you'll walk for minutes before there's any cover overhead.
- You haul your suitcases the whole way to the departure level – up two levels, weaving through arriving passengers.
- No staff on site. No one to help with a flat tyre or a dead battery.
- Easy to get lost, or drive into the wrong car park.
- Time-limited entry and exit.

- It's shuttle-based, so there's a wait. This is probably the biggest counter-argument.But it's no more than walking from the official mid-distance car park – that walk takes time too, perhaps even more than the shuttle.

The airport and its surroundings are huge – if you don't go there often, that alone is a source of stress.

A first-timer can easily drive into the wrong car park. Either you're stuck and pay a lot on return because your booking was elsewhere, or they charge you a few thousand forints on the way out – as much as a whole day's parking.
The cheap car parks are far away
The more affordable car parks are far from the terminals – up to a 1 km walk. The "short, covered walk" is a big stretch in reality: there's no roof over the car parks, so by the time you reach the pavement, you're soaked.
The weather works against you
Sometimes the walk is pleasant, but mostly it's a hassle. In rain, wind, snow, 35°C heat or sub-zero cold, dragging your luggage makes it worse. Even if the weather was fine on the way out, it may not be on the way back. With small children it's twice as hard.

Finding which row you left your car in, among thousands of cars, tired after a long trip – not the best way to start the drive home.
